KABUL, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan Counter-Narcotics Police have detained as many as 51 suspects, allegedly involved in drug-related crimes over the past 30 days, a statement of Criminal Justice Task Force (CJTF) released here Saturday said.

"Counter-Narcotics Police of Afghanistan (CNPA) have arrested 51 individuals for involvement in trafficking more than 22.5 tons of drugs over the last 30 days across the country," the statement asserted.

The contraband confiscated from the possession of the alleged drug traffickers includes poppy, hashish, heroin and substance used in manufacturing heroin, the statement said.

Afghanistan has been regarded as a major producer of poppy, the raw material used in manufacturing heroin. About 9,000 tons of opium were produced in the country in 2017, according to United Nations office on Drugs and Crimes (UNODC) report released on November 15.
