JALALABAD, Afghanistan, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- At least 11 Islamic States (IS) militants have been killed during air strikes by Afghan security forces in eastern Nangarhar province on Tuesday, the provincial governor's spokesman said Wednesday.

"Aircraft of security forces targeted the hideouts of IS militants in Nargosi and Khamon areas of Achin district in Nangarhar on Tuesday, killing at least 11 IS fighters," spokesman Ataullah Khogiani told Xinhua.

During the strikes, two hideouts of IS militants were also completely destroyed, he added.

Achin district is the stronghold of IS militants. Hundreds of armed fighters including several local commanders have been killed by Afghan and international forces in the past several months.
