TAIPEI, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- Taiwan's industrial production rose year-on-year for the sixth consecutive month in October, according to the island's economic affairs authority Thursday.

The October industrial production index rose 2.85 percent from a year earlier to 112.24, and an increase of 0.15 percent from the previous month.

Industrial production is expected to continue to expand in the next few months thanks to global economic recovery, new consumer electronic products, and the holiday season in western countries and the Chinese mainland.

Wholesale revenue grew for the 12th straight month on high demand for machinery equipment.

Retail and catering sectors earned record high revenues in October as stores started to offer seasonal discounts and holidays boosted consumption.
