TAIPEI, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- Taiwan's export orders hit a record high in October on the back of the global economic recovery and strong demand for electronic devices, according to data released by the island's economic authority Monday.

Export orders for the month stood at 46.6 billion U.S. dollars, up 9.2 percent year on year, marking the 15th consecutive month of growth.

Orders for all of the region's seven major categories of products registered a yearly increase in October, with orders for chemicals, rubber and metal products registering double-digit growth.

The authority's statistics show that the United States was Taiwan's biggest buyer in October, followed by the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong combined, which bought an October record high of 10.8 billion U.S. dollars in products from Taiwan.

The island's export orders are expected to continue to grow in the near future as holiday shopping will boost the demand for electronics and the recovering global economy as well as rising raw material prices will lift commodity sales.
