Welfare cases drop 0.3 pct in Oct. in Hong Kong

HONG KONG, Nov. 22, (Xinhua) -- The overall Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) caseload dropped 781 in October in Hong Kong, the Social Welfare Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government announced on Wednesday.

The total CSSA caseload at the end of October stood at 233,511, down 0.3 percent on September, with a total of 338,584 recipients.

Analyzed by case nature, low-earnings cases registered a month-to-month decrease of 2.3 percent to 4,532 cases while unemployment cases decreased 1.6 percent to 13,199.

Single-parent cases dropped 0.7 percent to 26,150. Permanent-disability cases decreased by 0.4 percent to 17,169 cases.

Ill-health cases fell 0.2 percent to 23,794 while old-age cases slipped 0.1 percent to 144,411.
