CAIRO, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese outgoing Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri arrived in Cairo on Tuesday for talks with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi on the current Lebanese crisis after his resignation as well as other regional developments, official MENA news agency reported.

Hariri's one-day visit to Cairo comes after he met with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris on Saturday, where he said he would return to Lebanon on Wednesday.

The former Lebanese prime minister announced his resignation from the Saudi capital Riyadh on Nov. 4, referring the reason to the internal and external armed activities of Hezbollah, a Lebanese Iran-backed Shiite militant group represented by several ministers and affiliates in the government and the parliament.

He also said in his resignation televised speech from Riyadh that he learned of an assassination plot against him in Lebanon.

Hezbollah and Iran claimed Hariri was held and forced to resign in Riyadh, which Hariri later denied in a TV interview in Riyadh and following his meeting with Macron in Paris.

Egypt tries to defuse Lebanon's political crisis created by Hariri's resignation, which has not yet been officially accepted by Lebanese President Michel Aoun.
