HAIKOU, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- A Singaporean ship was fined 40,000 yuan (6,000 U.S. dollars) for illegally discharging garbage into the sea, local authorities said Wednesday.

The ship Tai Hung San illegally discharged household garbage into nearby waters of Baohujiao Beach in Wenchang City in southern China's Hainan Province on December 20, 2016.

The local maritime safety administration investigated the case and punished the owner of the ship, Hua Xin Shipping PTE Ltd, with fines of 40,000 yuan in accordance with China's law on marine environment protection.

The company entrusted an agency to sign relevant legal documents with the local maritime safety administration, accepted punishment and paid the penalty last week.
