HONG KONG, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- The Legislative Council (LegCo) of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) passed a motion of thanks on Friday evening for the 2017 Policy Address of the HKSAR's Chief Executive.

This is the first time LegCo passed a motion of thanks for the chief executive's policy address since 2008.

Chief Secretary for Administration Matthew Cheung Kin-Chung said he was glad the motion was passed and thanked LegCo members for supporting it.

Cheung said the government will continue to strengthen communication and co-operation with the council in the implementation of the initiatives outlined in the policy address.

On Oct. 11, 2017, HKSAR's Chief Executive Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor delivered her maiden policy address, which covers different areas including diversified economy, education, manpower training, people's livelihood, livable city and governance. The LegCo members started to debate on these areas on Nov. 8.

Noting the three-day motion debate ran smoothly, Cheung said he hopes it marks the start of better collaboration between the administration and the legislature.

According to the LegCo, in no less than 14 days after the chief executive has delivered his or her Policy Address, the Chairman of LegCo's House Committee will move a motion at a council meeting to thank the chief executive for delivering his or her Policy Address.

During the debate on the motion of thanks, LegCo members will comment on the policy address and public officers will respond to these comments.
