NEW DELHI, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- India's central probe agency has arrested a senior student of a prominent international school in Gurgaon, a city on the outskirts of Delhi, in connection with the murder of a seven-year-old student on the campus two months ago.
The 11th grade accused student was earlier believed to be the one who had first spotted the body of class II student, Pradyuman Thakur, of Ryan International School in Gurgaon in a toilet near his classroom with his throat slit on Sept. 8.
"The accused student was apprehended for the murder Tuesday evening," spokesperson for Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Abhishek Dayal, told the media Wednesday.
The accused will be produced in a juvenile court later in the day. He faces a maximum of three years in a remand facility, if tried as a minor.
"Inspection of the crime spot, scrutiny of closed circuit TV footage, call records, statements and questioning of several people revealed that he had carried a knife inside the school campus on the day of the crime and used it to kill his junior school mate," he added.
The investigation by CBI, which took over the case within 15 days of the murder, came in sharp contrast to an earlier probe by local police who had arrested a school bus conductor the same day, claiming he had confessed to having killed the boy after trying to assault him.
But the CBI said that the bus conductor has not committed the murder, which led to three days of continuous protests across the country and brought the safety of children on school campus in sharp focus.
Two of the top school officials were earlier arrested by the Gurgaon police and the state government of Haryana has also taken over the management of the school, following the crime.
