ISLAMABAD, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- At least two policemen were killed when unknown gunmen opened fire at them in Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province on Monday, police said.
District Police Officer Mian Saeed said the policemen on duty at Shago checkpost in the province signaled a suspicious car to stop but the on-board persons opened fire at the police, killing two policemen.
According to the police, one of the cops died on the spot, while the other succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.
The incident happened in Shergarh area of Mardan, a district in the country's northwestern KPK province, said Dawn News.
Police and security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation in the surrounding areas to nab the assailants.
No group or individual has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
