SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- Three teenagers were killed in a traffic accident on a rural highway in the hills above Woodside, a small incorporated town in western California, local media reported Wednesday.

The three teenagers, with one identified as an 18-year-old and the other two aged 19, died in the accident when their car lost control on the rural highway in San Mateo County and crashed into a tree, the report quoted the California Highway Patrol (CHP) as saying.

The car's wreckage was found early in the day. The vehicle was traveling southbound before it drove off the road and fell about 80 meters down an embankment, CHP officials said.

The cause of the car crash is unknown, but CHP authorities are probing to see whether speeding, alcohol or drugs were involved in the accident.
