Malta's attractiveness for foreign investors slips: EY Malta survey

VALLETTA, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- Malta's attractiveness for foreign investment has slipped, EY Malta revealed in an annual survey on Wednesday.

Compared with the previous year, Malta's attractiveness dropped by some nine percentage points from 87 percent to 78 percent. In addition, Malta's "stability and transparency of the political, legal and regulatory environment" fell from 85 percent in 2015, to 70 percent in 2016, and came in at just 58 percent in 2017.

In total, 107 foreign companies which were asked several questions with the aim of assessing how attractive Malta is for investment.

According to the companies, the three most attractive features of Malta is corporate taxation in first place at 88 percent (a decline of three percentage points from that in 2016); the second was the stability of the social climate, which was at 82 percent, a dip of six percentage points from 2016; telecommunications infrastructure came in third place at 73 percent, up four percentage points from 2016.
