SEOUL, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- The number of foreign tourists visiting South Korea kept falling for seven straight months as Chinese tourists refrained from going on a tour to the neighboring country, a government report showed Monday.

According to the Korea Tourism Organization, the number of tourists traveling to South Korea came in at 1,078,653 in September, down 29.2 percent from the same month of last year.

The foreign tourists continued to fall since March as Chinese tourists refrained from visiting South Korea.

The number of Chinese travelers visiting the country tumbled 56.1 percent from a year earlier to 318,682 last month.

Tourists from other countries also declined amid geopolitical risks on the Koran Peninsula, caused by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK)'s nuclear test in early September and the war of words between Pyongyang and Washington.

The number of Philippine tourists dropped 37 percent, with the figures for Indonesian and Indian travelers tumbling 33.6 percent and 53.7 percent respectively.

Meanwhile, the number of South Koreans who went on a trip abroad was 2,236,500 in September, up 17.4 percent from a year ago.
