Jordan, U.S. explore joint business opportunities

AMMAN, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Jordanian and U.S. officials and business people on Sunday discussed joint business opportunities and the possibilities for joint ventures.

At a meeting in Amman between Jordanian Prime Minister Hani Mulki and Utah Governor Gary Herbert, who headed a U.S. business delegation to Jordan, the two sides stressed on the high potential for increased cooperation in various sectors.

The Premier highlighted challenges Jordan has been facing over the past years, especially in light of the closure of borders with Iraq and Syria and the influx of some 1.3 million Syrian refugees into the country.

He added that Jordan had signed several free trade agreements with the United States, Singapore, the EU and Arab states, which provides business in Jordan with a gateway into these markets.

He also highlighted several reforms Jordan is carrying out in various areas.

The U.S. official stressed his country's support to Jordan and keenness to boost ties in all areas.

Also on Sunday, King Abdullah II of Jordan met with the U.S. official and discussed cooperation in various areas including energy, investment, water and higher education.

Talks also covered efforts exerted to revive Mideast peace talks and finding just solutions to the Palestinian issue.
