NANGARHAR, Afghanistan, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Afghan air force launched an airstrike, leaving at least 10 Islamic State (IS) militants dead in the eastern province of Nangarhar, authorities said Saturday.

The incident took place late on Friday evening, when Afghan air force targeted an IS militants' hideout, leaving 10 IS fighters including Abu Taher, one of the terrorist group's local commanders, dead in Achin district of the province, army's 201 Silab Corps based in the area said in a statement.

Afghan ministry of national defense also confirmed the report, but the IS group has yet to make comment on the incident.

Last week, six IS fighters were killed and two others wounded in Afghan forces' operation in the mountainous province.
