SANTIAGO, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- Chile is Latin America's top country to live in and do business, according to a poll released on Friday.

The global Ipsos polling firm consulted 367 opinion leaders from 14 Latin American countries about their three favorite places in the region, and 58 percent picked Chile as the best place to live, followed by Uruguay (48 percent) and Argentina (36 percent).

Chile's lack of crime and respectable wages were cited as reasons why nationals from the Caribbean, Central America, Mexico and other South American countries would choose to live there.

Some 55 percent of respondents said Chile is the best place for doing business, followed by Peru (36 percent) and Colombia (35 percent), thanks to its thriving business sector.

In other areas, Chile didn't fare as well.

Brazil was elected best Latin American vacation destination (49 percent), followed by Mexico (40 percent) and Argentina (39 percent), with Chile trailing in sixth place.
