WASHINGTON, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- Bruce Harris, the brother of Mavericks guard Devin Harris, died on Thursday from injuries suffered in a fiery crash, local media reported on Friday.

The Dallas County medical examiner's office said Bruce Harris, 38, was pronounced dead at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital.

According to police, Harris and a 36-year-old male passenger were in a disabled vehicle in the northbound lanes of Central Expressway south of Walnut Hill Lane when an Acura sedan in which two 23-year-old men were riding struck the back of the vehicle.

The impact caused the gas tank to rupture and catch fire, according to police. All occupants were transported to the hospital.

Harris died later as a result of his injuries. There was no evidence of alcohol being a factor, police said.

Devin Harris played on Wednesday night in the Mavericks' season opener but was excused from practice on Thursday. It was unknown if he was with his brother before the accident.
