ANKARA, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- At least 12 police officers were wounded in a bomb attack in Turkey's southern province of Mersin on Tuesday.

The blast occurred when a shuttle bus carrying police officers was moving in central Yenisehir District of Mersin, the provincial governor said in a statement.

At least 12 officers were wounded in the attack, it added.

Ambulances and police were dispatched to the scene after the blast.

An investigation has been launched into the incident, Chief Public Prosecutor Mustafa Ercan said.

The Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) has targeted police in similar attacks in the past, according to the daily Hurriyet.

The PKK, listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the EU, resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015 after a brief reconciliation period.
