Dollar stays in lower 112 yen zone amid speculations on Fed's new chief

TOKYO, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) --The U.S. dollar stayed in the lower 112 yen zone on Tuesday in Tokyo amid speculations that a hawkish economist might be appointed as the new chairman of the U.S. Federal Reserve.

At 5:00 p.m. local time, the dollar was quoted at 112.12-13 yen compared with 112.14-24 yen in New York and 111.72-73 yen in Tokyo at 5:00 p.m. Monday. It moved between 112.04 yen and 112.30 yen during the day.

The euro fetched 1.1772-1773 dollars and 131.99-132.03 yen against 1.1791-1801 dollars and 132.30-40 yen in New York and 1.1793-1795 dollars and 131.75-79 yen in Tokyo late Monday afternoon.
