ANKARA, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- Turkish jets and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) targeted Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) positions in northern Iraq, killing eight militants, the military announced in a statement on Tuesday.
The military said that six of the militants were killed by jets in northern Iraq's Zap region, while two were killed by UAVs.
Meanwhile, two Turkish soldiers were killed and two others were wounded in a blast caused by an improvised explosive device planted by PKK militants in Zap, Iraq.
Military units continue to scan the area to find militants, the statement added.
The Iraq's Zap region has frontier with Turkey's southeastern Hakkari province, which is a main base for Turkish government to strike outlawed PKK militants, who has been striving for the establishment of an independent Kurdish state by armed combat since 1970s.
The PKK, listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU, has resumed its armed campaign against the Turkish government since July 2015.
