TOKYO, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Tuesday as investor sentiment was bolstered by Wall Street's overnight rally following upbeat U.S. manufacturing data.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 113.34 points, or 0.53 percent, from Monday to 21,368.90.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 7.90 points, or 0.46 percent, at 1,727.08.
Nonferrous metal, iron and steel, and machinery, linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
