TOKYO, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- A volcano in southwestern Japan erupted again early Saturday, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.

According to the agency, the volcano Mt. Shinmoe, one of the 50 active volcanoes constantly under watch of the weather agency, spewed ashes some 2,300 meters above its crater after it erupted Saturday morning.

The alert level for the volcano, meanwhile, remained three on a scale of five, which means that people are instructed not to approach the mountain and large flying rocks and pyroclastic flows could hit the area within 2 km of the crater, said the agency.

The agency also warned about risks of further eruptions of the volcano.

Mt. Shinmoe erupted early Wednesday for the first time since 2011.

The volcano, located at the borders of Kagoshima and Miyazaki prefectures, had been showing signs of intensified activities since late September.

The agency raised alert level of the volcano last Thursday from one to two on a scale of five, which means that people are warned not to go near the crater of the volcano, and from two to three this Wednesday.

No injuries or damage have been reported so far.
