SEOUL, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- Top military commanders of South Korea and the United States had a phone conversation on Saturday to confirm their already solid defense preparedness, according to Seoul's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS).

Chairman of the South Korean JCS General Jeong Kyeong-doo held talks via phone with his U.S. counterpart Joseph Dunford earlier in the day, the JCS said.

Jeong congratulated the recent re-appointment of Dunford as the U.S. JCS chairman, asking the top U.S. commander to make efforts at the more solid preparedness of the allied defense as he had done for the past two years.

The South Korean commander asked Dunford to discuss the development of the U.S.-South Korea alliance and hold a fruitful gathering during the upcoming military consultations meeting scheduled for late October.

In response, Dunford said that the U.S.-South Korea alliance was ironclad without any change and that the bilateral military relationship between the two allies would be developed further.

It was the third phone conversation between Jeong and Dunford since the Moon Jae-in government was launched in May.
