Chinese shares close higher Friday

BEIJING, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher Friday as strong foreign trade data boosted market sentiment.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index went up 0.13 percent to close at 3,390.52 points, while the Shenzhen Component Index gained 0.81 percent to close at 11,399.09 points.

Total turnover on the two bourses stood at 458.6 billion yuan (about 69.62 billion U.S. dollars), down from 481.5 billion yuan on the previous trading day.

Outperforming the major indexes, the ChiNext Index, which tracks China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.37 percent to close at 1,926.07 points.

The Chinese General Administration of Customs (GAC) announced Friday that exports increased 12.4 percent to 11.16 trillion yuan, while imports surged 22.3 percent to 9.13 trillion yuan.

"China's imports and exports remained sound and steady and witnessed positive changes in the first three quarters," the GAC said in a statement.

Stocks in the environmental protection sector led Friday's rise, with shares of some 21 green enterprises surging by the daily limit of 10 percent, including SCIMEE Tech.&Sci. Co. Ltd. and Bossco Environmental Protection Technology Co. Ltd.

Public-private partnerships and medical device shares were also among the biggest winners, while those related to automobiles, mobile payment and autonomous technologies declined.
