TOKYO, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks rose Thursday morning as investor sentiment was bolstered by U.S. shares' advance overnight and on optimism for corporate earnings reports here.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 97.29 points, or 0.47 percent, from Wednesday to 20,978.56.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 5.56 points, or 0.33 percent, to 1,702.37.
Land transportation, precision instrument, and information and communication-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the morning break.
