LAGOS, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari said on Sunday his government is increasing investment in and clearing up operational hurdles bedeviling the power sector.

In an address marking Nigeria's 57th independence anniversary in Abuja, the capital, Buhari said electricity remains a huge problem, although energy output has reached an all time high of 7,001 megawatts as of Sept 12.

"We hope to reach 10,000 megawatts by 2020," he said.

Buhari said key priorities in the sector include better energy mix through solar and hydro-technologies.

He also announced a new presidential initiative that would create a minimum of 10,000 jobs for unemployed youths across 36 states of the federation.

He said said the country had recorded seven consecutive months of low inflation.

"Naira rate is beginning to stabilize, appreciating from 525 naira to one U.S. dollar in February this year to 360 naira today," Buhari added.

He said broad-based economic growth is leading the country out of recession.
