Hamas says ready for reconciliation with Fatah

GAZA, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- Hamas movement said Monday that it is ready to reach a reconciliation deal with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas Fatah Party, a press statement said.

Hamas said it has informed Egyptian intelligence chief Khaled Fawzi that it is ready to reach a reconciliation deal with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas Fatah Party.

Hamas said in an emailed press statement that its leaders informed the Egyptians that it is ready to hold talks with Fatah Party in Cairo immediately to conclude a Palestinian reconciliation deal and define the mechanisms for its implementation.

The statement said that a Hamas delegation has been in Cairo, which is chaired by the movement's chief Ismail Haneya.

According to the statement, "the delegation confirmed Hamas' readiness to dissolve the administrative committee (in the Gaza Strip) immediately and enable the consensus Government to exercise its functions in Gaza."

The statement also said that the movement expressed readiness to hold the elections to be followed by an expanded conference of all Palestinian factions with the aim of forming a national unity government."

Fatah and Hamas have reached a number of bilateral understandings, but have failed to put an end to the internal divisions and restore unity between the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
