GAZA, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- Senior Islamic Hamas movement leaders were discussing the internal Palestinian reconciliation with high-ranking Egyptian security intelligence officials in Cairo, a Hamas official said Monday.

Taher Nouno, head of Hamas chief Ismail Haneya's office said in an emailed press statement that Haneya chaired a high-ranking Hamas delegation and held talks on Sunday evening with the Egyptian officials.

Nouno said that the meetings between the two sides were resumed Monday in Cairo after its predecessor meeting held Sunday.

He said the atmosphere of the meetings "was warm" and the discussions were "courageous, clam and positive," adding that four major issues are on the table of the dialogue.

Nouno named the four issues as boosting bilateral ties, following up the understandings reached with Cairo in June, discussing the Palestinian cause in general and debating the internal reconciliation with President Mahmoud Abbas Fatah movement.

On Saturday, Hamas politburo chief Haneya and several high-ranking Hamas leaders, including Yehya Sinwar, Hamas chief in Gaza headed to Cairo for talks with the Egyptians on several files and issues.

Fawzi Barhoum, Hamas spokesman in Gaza had earlier stated that easing the siege imposed on Gaza Strip, improving the ties with Egypt and ending more than ten years of the internal Palestinian division are the files that will be discussed.

Hamas had forcibly seized control of Gaza in June 2007 after its militias routed Abbas security forces. Since then, the movement has been alone ruling the coastal enclave, while reconciliation efforts with Abbas had always failed.
