Albania posts 1.6 pct annual growth in producer price index

TIRANA, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- Producer price index in Albania registered an annual growth of 1.6 percent in the second quarter of 2017 compared with the same period of 2016, while on quarterly basis it fell by 0.9 percent compared with the first quarter, Albanian Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) said in a report Wednesday.

According to the institute, goods manufactured in Albania require more money to reach their final phase before entering the market and this explains the increased costs.

Referring to INSTAT report, it results that the highest prices are seen in the extraction industry, namely in "mining and quarrying" section by 8.2 percent.

Meanwhile, costs for the manufacture of export products registered an increase of 3.3 percent compared to the same period a year ago, INSTAT's experts explained.

Producer prices on activities of "manufacture" section went up by 1.2 percent where prices of products in metallurgy increased by 5.3 percent, manufacture of chemical products by 5.1 percent, and manufacture of clothes by 0.6 percent.

INSTAT further noted that producer prices for domestic market saw an increase by 1.9 percent compared with the same period of 2016.
