5.2-magnitude earthquake hits India's Andaman Islands

NEW DELHI, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- A moderate earthquake hit India's Andaman Islands Wednesday morning, officials said.

According to Indian Meteorological Department, the 5.2-magnitude earthquake occurred at 5:40 a.m. local time (0010 GMT).

"The epicentre of earthquake was located at 10.0 degrees north latitude and 93.6 degrees east longitude," a statement released by Indian Meteorological Department said. "The depth of the earthquake was 10 km."

Andaman islands are located at the juncture of the Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea.

So far there were no reports of any damage or loss of lives in the earthquake.
