BANGKOK, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- A record haul of more than four million tablets of Ya Ba (methamphetamine) was seized in northern Thailand on Thursday, police said.
Two Thai males were arrested at a shophouse in Mae Sai district of Chiang Rai province, about 860 km north of Bangkok, with the 4.1 million speed pills and 200 kg of ketamine allegedly smuggled across the Thai-Myanmar border and destined for an alleged drug trafficker in Phrae province in northern Thailand, the police said.
The drug trafficking suspects were identified as Supachai Rungruang, 31, and Kittipong Phanchompu, 24, the police said.
The suspects, known as villagers of Lampang province in the northern region, were quoted as saying they had used the rented shophouse as a hiding place with intent to deliver the drugs over to other alleged traffickers.
