UNITED NATIONS, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned Tuesday's terrorist attacks in Nigeria, which killed at least 27 people.
In a statement released by his spokesman Stephane Dujarric late Tuesday night, the UN chief called for those responsible for the attacks in Nigeria and neighboring countries to be swiftly brought to justice.
The secretary-general reiterated the UN's solidarity with the government of Nigeria in its fight against terrorism and violent extremism, said the statement.
Guterres also renewed the world body's commitment to support the counter-terrorism initiatives of the Lake Chad Basin Commission, it said.
Two separate suicide attacks in the northeastern Nigerian state of Borno left at least 27 people dead and many others wounded on Tuesday.
