Gov't forces kill 6 Boko Haram fighters in NE Nigeria

ABUJA, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Six Boko Haram fighters have been killed by government forces in an operation aimed at dislodging the remnant of the terror group in Nigeria's northeast.

Nigerian Army spokesman Sani Usman told reporters on Wednesday that the terrorists were killed in Dikwa area of the northeastern state of Borno on Monday.

Usman said the troops, assisted by the civilian self-defense force in the area, had laid an ambush for the terrorists between two villages in the area.

"Several other terrorists sustained various degrees of injuries," he added.

The Nigerian Army said troops are sustaining the tempo in their fight against terrorists and aimed to clear unrepentant Boko Haram fighters from the shores of Nigeria.

Boko Haram has killed more than 20,000 and displaced 2.3 million people in its attacks since 2009. Enditem
