PARON, Afghanistan, July 27 (Xinhua) -- Afghan security forces repelled a Taliban attack in the country's eastern province of Nuristan, killing at least 45 militants, including their seven commanders, the defense ministry said on Thursday.
"Hundreds of Taliban insurgents attacked Want Waygal district of Nuristan province on Wednesday night, which faced with the fierce resistance of security forces," the ministry said, adding 45 militants were killed and 50 others wounded after their positions targeted by airstrikes.
However, the ministry didn't say if there were casualties on security personnel.
Taliban militants have intensified activities since late April and briefly overran at least three districts in parts of the war-battered country.
