District chief, 5 others killed in W. Afghanistan's explosion

FARAH, Afghanistan, July 26 (Xinhua) -- An Afghan district chief together with five of his bodyguards has been killed in a roadside mine blast in western province of Farah, the provincial governor spokesman confirmed Wednesday.

The incident took place late on Tuesday in Shib Koh district of the province, when Abdul Rahim Haidari was on the way home from office, spokesman Mohammad Naser Mehri told Xinhua.

"Haidari's vehicle was hit by a roadside mine leaving him and all of his five guards dead on the spot," the spokesman added.

Among those killed bodyguards was a son of the slain district chief, said the official.

No group or individual has claimed responsibility for the incident so far.
