MADRID, July 25 (Xinhua) -- A man wielding a knife and shouting "Allahu Akbar" (Allah is great) was detained on Tuesday by Spanish National Police at the frontier dividing the Spanish north-African enclave of Melilla from Morocco, the Spanish Interior Ministry confirmed.
The incident happened at 7:35 a.m. at the Beni Enzar frontier gate, and a policeman was slightly injured after suffering a cut on one of his fingers, according to the ministry.
Video images showed the police rapidly surrounded the man after one of them knocked him to the ground with a plastic traffic control barrier, allowing the rest to overpower him.
Interior Minister Juan Ignacio Zoido praised the police for their rapid action, saying they had "stopped a serious incident."
Police sources confirmed they have for the moment ruled out terrorism as a motive for the incident, explaining the man was suffering from mental problems.
However, anti-terrorism experts are continuing to analyze the incident to see if terrorism was a motive.
