BEIJING, July 25 (Xinhua) -- Chinese diver He Zi, winner of the synchronized three-meter springboard at the 2012 London Olympic Games, announced her retirement on Sina Weibo here on Tuesday.

He, 26, also runner-up of the 3m springboard at the Rio Games last year, got married with her diving teammate Qin Kai in June.

During the Rio Games last year, He received a marriage proposal at the Maria Link Aquatics Stadium from Qin, also an Olympic champion, after the awarding ceremony for the women's 3m springboard.

"It is 20 years since I started diving at six. Now it's time to say goodbye. Last year I was a diver but this year I am a wife and I am going to be a mother," He said.

She has been bothered by a foot injury since the Rio Games.

"I had rested for 11 months after the Rio Games, but when I took a walk for three hours the other day, my foot hurt a lot, and for five days I could not get down from my bed," she said.

The Chinese diving team just concluded their competition at the World Championships in Budapest last Saturday, winning eight out of the 13 gold medals on offer.
