NEW DELHI, July 19 (Xinhua) -- India has said that one of its nationals recently abducted in the Democratic Republic of Congo has been released from his captors.
Ritesh Hemnani, a Mumbai-based businessman, was abducted by armed men in Kinshasa on June 23.
"We have secured the release of Ritesh Hemnani from his captors in Congo. We are thankful to Government of Democratic Republic of Congo," Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj tweeted Tuesday.
"I appreciate the efforts of our mission there," the minister added.
On Sunday, the minister said that 39 of its nationals abducted by Islamic State militants in the Iraqi city of Mosul three years back may be lodged in a jail in nearby Badush and that efforts were on to secure their release as well.
"Once fighting stops in Badush and the area is cleared, we can probably find out the whereabouts of the missing nationals," Swaraj said.
