DUBAI, July 11 (Xinhua) -- The United Arab Emirates (UAE) topped the list of foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows to Arab countries worth 9 billion dollars in 2016, UAE state news agency WAM said on Tuesday.
The official agency said that this statistic was part of the report of the Investment Climate in Arab Countries for 2017 issued by the Arab Institution for Guarantee Investment and Export Credit "Daman."
The report showed that FDI inflows to Arab countries rose by 25 percent to 30.8 billion dollars in 2016 compared with 24.6 billion dollars in 2015.
The investment in Arab countries accounted for 1.8 percent of the world total of 1,774 billion dollars in 2016 and 4.8 percent of the total developing countries of 646 billion dollars for the same year.
The report pointed out that "the year 2016 saw continued focus of foreign direct investment contained in a limited number of Arab countries, where the UAE, Egypt and Saudi Arabia accounted for about 80 percent of the total."
