KUWAIT, July 11 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait has congratulated Iraq on its victory in liberating Mosul from the rule by the terror group Islamic State (IS).

Kuwait's Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah sent cables on Monday to Iraqi President Fuad Masum and Prime Minister Haidar Al-Abadi to offer congratulations to the Iraqi government and people on the liberation of Mosul, the official KUNA news agency reported.

Al-Sabah said the victory of Iraqi army and security forces was "a victory for all Iraqis." He also prayed that Iraq will enjoy stability and security, and that the Iraqi people live in prosperity.

Kuwait's Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabahalso also sent similary cables to congratulate Iraq on the liberation of Mosul, the report added.

Abadi declared victory in liberating Mosul from the IS rule on Monday, after a nine-month tough battle to drive the terror group out of the second largest Iraqi city.

Mosul's loss symbolizes the start of total collapse of IS, which declared in Mosul in 2014 the establishment of an Islamic caliphate. Mosul has been the de facto capital for IS in Iraq.
