ISLAMABAD, July 7 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan on Friday welcomed the UN Security Council's decision to sanction Pakistan Taliban group Jamaat ul Ahrar (JuA), which is blamed for many deadly attacks across the county.

The Security Council's 1267 Sanctions Committee on Thursday approved the addition of JuA in the list of entities and individuals subject to the assets freeze, travel ban and arms embargo.

"Pakistan had proposed this listing," the foreign ministry said.

A statement said the JuA operates from Afghanistan's Nangarhar province and has been involved in a series of terrorist attacks inside Pakistan. Pakistan had proscribed JuA last year.

JuA was launched in 2014 by several leaders of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan after internal differences surfaced over leadership and policies.

Abdul Wali, who is also known as Omar Khalid Khorasani, is leading the group.

In April, Ehsanullah Ehsan, the former spokesman of JuA, surrendered to the security forces, which was a serious blow to the group. Ehsan later disclosed in a video that many Pakistani militants now operate from the Afghan side of the border.
