HANOI, July 6 (Xinhua) -- Some 1,000 delegates from all over the world will partake in the International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) Working Week slated for 2019 in Vietnam, according to local authorities.

"With various plenary and technical sessions, workshops, exhibitions, side events and social functions, the FIG Working Week will be a unique opportunity for surveying and spatial professionals from different countries, including China, to discuss geodesy-related issues such as global positioning and data management," Tran Bach Giang, President of the Vietnam Association of Geodesy, Cartography and Remote Sensing, told Xinhua on Thursday.

Under the theme "For Spatial Enablement of Each Citizen," the FIG Working Week 2019, slated for April 22-26, will touch upon not only scientific issues but also application ones like online maps on smartphones, he said.

Established in 1878, the FIG is the United Nations-recognized global organization for the profession of surveying and related disciplines with 104 member associations.

Vietnam is building a network of satellite-based global positioning stations in the 2016-2020 period, Giang said.
