Over 200 arrested in Ankara's anti-drugs operation

ANKARA, June 20 (Xinhua) -- Over 200 suspects on Tuesday were arrested in the anti-drugs raid in Turkish capital Ankara, the state-run Anadolu Agency reported.

The 208 arrests were a record for a single police operation in Turkey, according to Ankara Police Chief Mahmut Karaaslan.

The police has seized 90 packages of heroin, 46 packets of crack cocaine and 2 kilograms (4.4 pounds) of cannabis.

Dozens of firearms and ammunition were also captured, said the provincial governor's office.

Around 3,000 officers, backed by sniffer dogs and two helicopters, have participated in the raids targeting 257 addresses across Ankara.

On June 13, a total of 212 kilograms of cocaine were seized from a ship which was anchored in Ambarli harbor in Istanbul.

On June 2, Turkish anti-drug police launched a major anti-drug operation on the Congo-flagged ship Commander Tide, confiscating 1,071 kilograms of heroin.
