6.0-magnitude quake hits western Turkey

ISTANBUL, 12 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 hit the western coast of Turkey on Monday, with no casualties reported so far.

The Kandilli Observatory first reported the magnitude at 6.3, but revised it to 6.0 later, with the epicenter determined to be 23 kilometers off the Karaburun district of Izmir, the Hurriyet daily said.

It said the earthquake happened at a depth of 10 kilometers and was felt in Istanbul and northwestern cities of Canakkale and Bursa.

Up to now no causalities have been reported, according to press reports.
