TRIPOLI, June 10 (Xinhua) -- The mayor of Benghazi in eastern Libya survived an assassination attempt on Saturday after his motorcade was targeted by a car bomb, a security source said.
A pick-up truck parked in one of the by-streets exploded during the passing of Abdul-Rahman al-Abbar's motorcade, wounding at least five and damaging nearby cars," the source said, adding that the mayor suffered no injuries.
No group claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
Army and police leaders, as well as government officials in Benghazi are constantly subjected to similar attacks, usually adopted by terrorist groups such as the Islamic State and Ansar al-Sharia.
