Robbery, burglary cases decrease in Macao in Q1: police chief

MACAO, May 22 (Xinhua) -- The number of robbery and burglary cases decreased in Macao in the first quarter of this year, the police chief said at a press briefing on Monday.

According to Wong Sio Chak, secretary for security of the Macao Special Administrative Region, a total of 18 robbery cases and 807 burglary cases were reported respectively in the first quarter, down by 37.9 percent and 7 percent year-on-year respectively.

The cases of extortion and usury also decreased in the first quarter, with a total of 15 and 89 such cases being reported respectively, down by 42.3 percent and 16 percent year-on-year respectively.

No violent crimes of murder, kidnapping or serious assault have been registered in the first quarter in 2017, Wong said, adding that the police is about to intensify the law enforcement, information collecting and cross-regional police cooperation to prevent any crimes.

A drop was also seen in cases of drug-related crimes, juvenile delinquency, illegal entry and over-staying of visas, according to the statistics.
