Vietnam launches hotline to fight illegal gift giving ahead of Lunar New Year holiday

HANOI, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- The Anti-Corruption Bureau under the Government Inspectorate of Vietnam (GIV) has launched two hotline numbers to receive feedbacks from local people on illegal gift giving ahead Lunar New Year holiday in 2017.

According to the bureau leader, in the coming time, the GIV will send documents to sectors, ministries and localities, urging them to monitor the situation and make reports to the GIV after the Lunar New Year holiday, reported local Tien Phong (Pioneer) newspaper on Wednesday.

On the occasion of Lunar New Year holiday from Feb. 2 to 16, 2016, the hotlines of the Anti-Corruption Bureau and bureau chief Pham Trong Dat received as many as 156 feedbacks via phone calls and texts to denounce corruption activities.

Among which, a total of 66 information sources were related to illegal gift giving and taking, 50 referred to corruption while 40 proposed measures for more effective anti-corruption work.

These sources of information have been taken into consideration while the country is amending its law on anti-corruption as well as supplementing a regulation on gift giving, taking and handing over to become more practical, reported Tien Phong.
