Vietnam's auto sales up 30 pct in first 10 months

HANOI, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's automobiles sales in the first ten months of 2016 increased 30 percent year-on-year to reach 242,681 units, according to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers' Association (VAMA) on Thursday.

During January-October period, the sales of passenger cars soared 30 percent, while that of commercial vehicles climbed 29 percent, and special purpose vehicles rose 40 percent compared to the same period last year.

Meanwhile, sales of domestically-built cars rose 34 percent and that of imported vehicles went up 22 percent year-on-year, said VAMA.

October was the month Vietnam's auto sales hit this year's peak with 28,283 units sold, up 26 percent year-on-year.

Local Truong Hai Auto Corporation continued to take the lead in October with 9,895 units sold, accounting for nearly 35 percent of the market share, followed by Toyota Vietnam with 5,532 units, or 19.56 percent.

Industry experts predict around 28,000 cars will be sold each month in the remaining months of the year, bringing total auto sales for 2016 to hit some 300,000 units.
