YANGON, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- Street vendors in Myanmar's Yangon will be removed to improve pedestrian access, official media reported Sunday quoting a decision of the Yangon region parliament.

The motion tabled in the parliament covers the four townships of Lanmadaw, Latha, Pabedan and Kyauktada.

The measure is said to enable the vendors to sell in a more systematic manner and improve pedestrian access.

Describing the issue as a sensitive one, Yangon Mayor U Maung Maung Soe said arrangements are being made to give the vendors new places along the Strand Road on the bank of Yangon river, and water and electricity will be supplied with charge.

The number of vendors has increased substantially over the past two years.

The project of relocating the vendors has been underway since July with installation of water and electricity supply to house the large number of vendors.
