YAGNON, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar State Counselor and Foreign Minister Aung San Suu Kyi has received Hellen Keller International Humanitarian Award 2016 which was presented in recognition of her outstanding dedication to philanthropic causes, official media reported Friday.
The award was handed over by Dr. Howard Cohn, President of the Hellen Keller International Europe in Nay Pyi Taw.
Accepting the award, Aung San Suu Kyi said "We need to break through a situation of blindness and deafness, then we open ourselves to the world at large."
Hellen Keller International aims to make the vulnerable strong and thus capable of building lives that are meaningful and will contribute to the well-being of the world in general.
Hellen Keller toured the world extensively in spite of the fact that she could not see and could not hear. However, she managed to communicate with more people.
